A disulfiram-like reaction has been reported in patients taking alcohol while on furazolidone therapy. Alcohol should be avoided during, and for a short period after, treatment with furazolidone. Furazolidone is an MAOI and the cautions advised for these drugs regarding use with other drugs, especially indirect-acting sympathomimetic amines, and the consumption of food and drink containing tyramine, should be observed .
